Thrifty Treasures January 16th, 2016

Here’s me, Periscoping from the thrift store like I just don’t care!

There was a gleam in my eye and a bounce in my step this morning as I hightailed it out of here with just the baby for some thrift store shopping. It’s a rare thing when Mama gets to go shopping without two dragging boys who do not appreciate the finer aspects of home décor (and let their displeasure be known every step of the way). With my coffee in hand, I set out for all my favorite thrifty haunts.

Where I live, there are two second-hand stores in the same plaza that I like to scour a few time a month for treasures. Some days I come up with nothing, but sometimes I feel like I hit the jackpot. Now, I like to shop as much as the next lady, but there’s something about thrifting and antiquing that gets me downright giddy. It’s like there are hidden gems stuffed on these long ago dusted shelves that are just waiting for me to snatch them up and crow.

And today was a jackpot day! I scored some of my favorite milk glass collection pieces yet: three beautiful, tall milk glass candy dishes! There are usually one or two of these pieces to be found at a thrift shop, but I have been looking specifically for the taller pieces. Best part? They were $1.99 each!

I also picked up a couple of old rolling pins that I like to collect, and two picture frames that I thought would fit perfectly on my shelves that I recently rearranged. My last thrifty treasure was a pretty, galvanized tin French flower bucket. All this for $11.00!

The Christmas Tree Shop and Michael’s were my next stops. I was pretty excited to see lots of spring décor out. It’s not even February yet, but I’m not complaining. The forsythia wreaths and cherry blossoms were a beautiful sight. I scored some beautiful wooden herb boxes and a cute galvanized tin box that I’m going to use on my shelves, too.

Thank you for reminding me that there are MORE places I can shop! (My hubby is not as pleased, I’m sure!) I donate often to places such as Goodwill, but forget to return there to treasure hunt. I’d love to see a photo of your milk glass. I inherited a collection from my grandmother but never knew quite what to do with it. Do you have it on display? What’s unique about the taller pieces? Thanks again for sharing; I love peeking into the lives of other people’s “normal “!

It’s so much fun to think of ways to repurpose things! My milk glass collection is not huge yet, and I don’t have it displayed. I’m always on the hunt for the perfect hutch or sideboard to refinish for that purpose. I love the taller pieces just for the atheistic. I think they are just so lovely! Thanks for reading and commenting! I’d love to see your collection, too!
