Halloween is such fun, isn’t it? One of my favorite parts of being a parent is watching my kids enjoy the holidays and making memories together as a family.
For the first time this year, Jackson and James don’t want an actual costume. Instead, they are dressing up as baseball players using their own jerseys and gear. I’m happy we’re not at the gruesome zombie costume stage, but it’s also a little bittersweet that they are growing up and out of the little kid costumes. Isla is still undecided between Doc McStuffins and a fairy witch (I’m not sure that costume exists, but she wants it.)
With Halloween around the corner, I’ve been spending time on Pinterest looking at fun new ideas to do with the kids this year. Last year we made an easy no-bake snake treat that was a big hit. You know what they say about the way to the heart? It’s true around here at least. No matter how big these kids get, they will always find a way to cook with me, especially if it’s any of these fun recipes.
Here are some spooky ideas around Pinterest that caught my eye.
These would be a nice, healthy snack if you filled them with fruit salad. Or you could just throw caution to the wind and stuff candy in there like I plan to.
We’ve used this recipe for a few years and it’s a hit for the whole family. The pumpkin flavor is delicious and the ghosts turn even the pickiest eaters into fans. Put a little dish of mini chocolate chips out and let the kids decorate their ghosts for some extra fun.
I first saw these trays at the store and realized how easy it was to recreate at home. Buy some bulk gummy snakes and eyeballs and anything else that sounds creepy and freeze them in ice-cube trays. I can’t wait to surprise the kids one night at dinner with these in their drinks.
So gross and so good, perfect for October lunch boxes.
Most years I make fall frosted sugar cookies with the boys, but this year I was looking for something a little simpler. No rolling out the dough and mixing frosting colors. These monster brownies are the perfect compromise.
Happy Halloween! All of these recipes and more are on my Pinterest boards.
