When my friend Sean contacted me about an opportunity here in Rochester, NY to support CURE Childhood Cancer Association, I didn’t think twice before replying, “Yes!” I read the email with a lump forming in my throat.
Childhood Cancer. The words that inspire fear in parents’ hearts. The words make me stay up at night thinking about the babies who are fighting with huge, courageous hearts and tiny bodies, something that needs a CURE.
CURE Childhood Cancer Association in Rochester, NY provides emotional and financial support to the families of children diagnosed with cancer. From first diagnoses, through treatment and beyond, families have support available every step of the way with:
- counselors that act as liaisons between families and doctors
- comfort care bags available for overnight stays
- relief from the parking fees that add a mighty financial burden
- tutors for children who are not able to go to school
- and many more services
CURE provides nationally recognized peer to peer support for families when they need it the most.
And we can help, too, friends. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and CURE is painting the town gold – Go Gold for Kids! The Golden Rule of kindness is all that it takes to participate in this worthy cause!
What better way to teach a lesson than to demonstrate, right? This is where we come in:
In September, record an act of kindness or share your story of something kind that you (involve your kids, grandkids, friends, too!) do or have seen and share it on social media with the hashtag #gogoldforkids to raise awareness and encourage your friends and family to participate, too!
I’m so excited to get my kids involved in this! We talk often about what it means to be a “bucket filler” instead of a “bucket dipper” to those around us. I know that this golden rule challenge will be the best kind of example of how kindness matters and how every one of us is capable of making a difference in someone’s life.
I have a bunch of ideas swirling of how my crew and I can jump into this Go Gold for Kids campaign. I think I’ll talk to Tom this week and brainstorm some ideas of how we can join in this amazing cause. Check back because I can promise I’ll be sharing how we decide to follow the golden rule.
What do you think, guys? Are you in? Who’s with me in joining this battle with the tiniest and bravest fighters of all? Tag it all this month and let’s all #gogoldforkids!
Check out this video about the Go Gold campaign for more information. I nominate YOU, friend!
