My first five years of teaching were as a middle school English teacher. I’ll never forget the feeling, on the first day of school, when a few of my new students would bashfully hand me a sweet little back-to-school gift to celebrate the new school year.
That’s exactly how I hope my boys’ teachers feel when they get these back-to-school boxes: appreciated, excited, and ready for a great year.
The boys and I went to our local craft store and found the red and blue boxes. There were a ton of options like crates, decorative buckets, wire baskets, but we settled on the boxes because, as James noted, “They hold a wot.” I like that the boys’ teachers can repurpose them after the goodies are gone, too.
We grabbed some decorative flowers and button accessories when we were there, and I used ribbon and trim that we already had at home to decorate the front. A few swipes of the glue gun, some narrowly missed burned fingers, and the decorating was done.
They really couldn’t be more simple to make, and you can customize them any way you like. My boys happened to have two female teachers this year, so I took my love of planning and filled their boxes with some of my favorite back-to-school supplies like the Jot Your Thoughts Journals and the new designer pencil set from Erin Condren.
Of course, I had to add two sticker books, the Cool for School teacher book and the new Classic 2 sticker book because who doesn’t love to decorate papers and lesson planners with cute stickers?
This is what we included in the boxes:
Jot Your Thoughts Journals
Mini decorative chalkboards
Monogram letters of their last name
Dunkin Donuts gift cards
Blank note cards
I’ll let you know how they go over! Please tag me at #willowcrestlaneplans if you make one, too! I’d love to see it.
In the meantime, let’s hope my shy Jackson doesn’t change his mind about giving it to his teacher. He loops with his teacher from last year, and she’s the sweetest, most patient woman ever. We all just love her, especially my big guy who turns a bit red when we talk about her.
